Summary

The Alberta Association of Immigrant Serving Agencies (AAISA) is an umbrella organization representing and strengthening the newcomer-serving sector in Alberta. They partnered with the seven other Canadian umbrella organizations in the settlement and integration sector to build capacity in addressing the diverse needs and intersecting identities of newcomers. The result of this work is a roadmap to multiple tools and resources for applying Gender-Based Analysis Plus (GBA Plus) principles to policies, programs, and practices.

The resources on the National Resource Guide Website include several downloadable tools, including an overview over tools and resources, foundational knowledge, templates to assess organizational structures, policies, and staff diversity, and tools to support organizations to gather, analyze, and apply data that reflect the diverse needs of their clients and staff.

Policy & Practice Implications

  • Providers in the newcomer-serving sector can apply the Tools and Resources to plan or refine the implementation of GBA Plus in their operations, ensuring their programs serve newcomers with diverse and intersecting identities.
  • Organizations can use the Courses and Tools to strengthen their internal understanding of how factors like gender, race, age, and disability intersect to shape experiences.
  • Leaders in organizations and the sector can use the Resources for strategic planning and to ensure equitable policies and workplace cultures.
