Summary

Healthy Aging Alberta is a network of community-based senior serving organizations and allies with a shared vision of making the province one of the best places in the world to grow older.

In 2023, Healthy Aging Alberta contracted PolicyWise for Children & Families to create Asset Maps in support of their Social Prescribing for Older Adults Program. These maps document and categorize community assets for easy reference.

Each asset map shows the spectrum of programs, resources, and services available for older adults in Jasper, Whitecourt, Red Deer and area, Sylvan Lake, Innisfail, Strathmore and Wheatland County, and Vulcan.

Policy & Practice Implications

  • Asset maps can help front-line workers connect their communities to resources and services.
  • Policymakers can use these asset maps to address determinants of health by learning about service gaps in rural areas.
  • Senior-serving organizations can adapt this strengths-focused approach of asset mapping to address gaps in services and identify existing assets available for older adults in their communities.
